Alan Reese Cunningham

Cdr. (ret) Alan Reese Cunningham age 89 of Orange Park, FL passed away at his home on Friday, December 6, 2019. Cdr. Cunningham was born to the late Edward Alexander and Esther "Reese" Cunningham on March 29, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Purdue University and graduated from Ohio State University. He was married to Barbee Beck Hooper in Jacksonville, FL October 28, 1966.Cdr. Cunningham served in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam war. He was an A-4 Carrier Pilot and Skipper for VA-36. He retired in 1970 after 22 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement from the US Navy he was a pilot for the Florida Division of Forestry and retired from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Lou Brumbach of Atlantic Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbee "Beck" Cunningham of Orange Park; daughters, Samantha (Franklin) Waters of Orange Park and Timothe (Jarrod) Romani of Orange Park; grandchildren, Franklin Waters III, Jacob Romani (Linsey), Zachary Waters, Chase Romani and Antonio Romani; as well as one great-grandchild, Rowen Romani.Memorial services will be held at a later date.Arrangements are under the care of HELM-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME OF GREEN COVE SPRINGS: 904-284-9696.
