Albert Eugene "Gene" Sapp

Mr. Albert Eugene "Gene" Sapp age 85, of Melrose passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. He was born August 28, 1932 in Irvine, Florida to the late John Hugh and Annie Pearl (Wynn) Sapp. Mr. Sapp had been a resident of Melrose for the past 60 years and was a member of the Church of Christ in Melrose. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired as the IFAS Department Superintendent at the University of Florida after 38 years of service. When he and his wife werent visiting the Senior Center, Gene enjoyed singing on his riding mower while cutting the grass. He was an avid Gator fan and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Sapp was preceded in death by his brother, John W. Sapp. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia Ann (McElveen) Sapp of Melrose; four children, Benjamin E. Sapp of Mims, James D. Sapp (Kristina) of Gainesville, Susan Sapp Hettel (George) of Melrose, and David M. Sapp (Vicky) of Suffolk, Virginia;and a sister-in-law, Anna F. Sapp of Melrose. Also left behind are two nephews, Eddie and Larry Sapp; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren with one on the way, and many additional family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Gene Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Eliam Cemetery in Melrose. Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 340 E.
