It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allen Quitman Byrd, who left this world on August 1, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on March 19, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida, Allen lived a life filled with love and commitment to his family and his work.
A man of deep devotion, Allen cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Diane Byrd, who stood by him through thick and thin, alongside their cherished son, Charles Dennis Byrd (Tassie). As a proud grandfather, he is survived by Candice Blackford (Clayton), Ashley Byrd, Dennis Byrd (Gracie), and Alexis LaTouche (EJ). As well as great-grandchildren Callie Rae Blackford, Carolina Rose Blackford, Paisley Byrd, Julius LaTouche, and Lea LaTouche. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, sister Margaret Dean and brothers Jimmy Byrd and Charles Anderson (Katrina).
Allen met Diane as a teenager and they were married at ages 18 and 19. They then had two sons, Allen and Dennis. They moved around quite a bit before settling in Orangedale, Florida. Where Allen dedicated many years to his vocation as a Property Manager at Deer Creek, where he was known for his unwavering dedication and strong work ethic. He touched many lives through his work in land management, offering guidance and support to those he encouraged along the way. He also made many life long friendships. Allen was a man who loved to fish and loved nothing more than taking his family out on the boat. Stranded or not, he knew how to have a good time. He quickly learned that having the kids around would help in such instances and didn’t mind one bit saying “alright, get out the boat, and push” right across the sand bar. His life’s mission was to have more boats in the yard that didn’t work, than the ones that did.
In remembering Allen Byrd, we celebrate a remarkable life filled with deep affection for family, unwavering integrity, and the warmth of a kind-hearted spirit. He was a man of strength, and a voice of reason. He was a man whose words brought comfort and reassurance in any problem or situation. He was steady, strong, confident, giving, adventurous, bold, kind, and so much more. Allen blessed us with his humor, and his unique way of touching our hearts, and for that, his voice will never be forgotten. He will be profoundly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
Allen's spirit will be celebrated during a Funeral Service at Jones - Gallagher Funeral Home 1811 Idlewild Avenue, Green Cove Springs, Florida 32043 ,on August 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
Prior to the service, a public visitation will be held at the same location beginning at 10:30 AM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to pay their respects and honor the memory of a man who gave so much to those he loved.
