Allen Woodville Duke Allen Woodville Duke passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 28, 2012. He was the son of Alonza Bryan and Velma Earnest Duke. Allen was born in Omaha, Alabama and moved to Jacksonville at an early age. He was a salesman for Jacksonville Paint Company, S.B. Hubbard and Company, Perfection Heaters and the Florida Regional Manager for Kwikset Locks. After retirement he continued to work as a lumber/hardware broker for S. Gartner and Company and Demetrie Brothers Building Company. He met his loving wife, Charlotte Meaders, while serving in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as a Pharmacists Mate. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard. They had two beautiful daughters, Denise D. Hunt and Dale D. Regan.He was predeceased by his parents, Alonza Bryan and Velma Earnest Duke, his loving wife of 70 years, Charlotte Meaders Duke, and his cherished daughter, Dale Duke Regan.He is survived by his daughter Denise Duke Hunt and her husband Russell of Turtletown, TN, his two wonderful grandsons, John Allen Regan of Macon, GA, and Franklin Duke Regan of Jacksonville, FL, and his loving sisters, Helen Duke Woods and her husband Lamar and Grace Duke Nichols Henderson. Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; a true friend for all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and his many dear friends, as well as the nurses and staff of Glenmoor Retirement Community.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 2:00P.M. in Crichton Hall, Glenmoor Retirement Community, St. Augustine, FL, with the Rev. Michael Ellis, Rector, Roger Dickerson, Pastoral Minister, at St. Francis-in-the Field, Ponte Vedra, FL, and Rev. Gail Werstlein, Retired, University City United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the Celebration of Life service.To honor Allens loving spirit and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northeast Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32257, or a favorite charity of your choice.
