AZURE W. JOHNS, 89, of St. Augustine, passed away on June 12, 2012Mr. Johns was born on March 17, 1923 to the late Purvey and Verda(Barber) Johns and grew up in Lawtey, Florida. Mr. Johns was a World WarII veteran, serving in the army infantry. He fought with the first troops arrivingin the city to free Rome and was recognized as a war hero for his brave service.Mr. Johns and his beloved wife Dorothy lived in Jacksonville over 50years before moving to St. Augustine to live with their daughter andgranddaughter in 2007. He was a member of Woodstock Park Baptist andPark Lane Baptist churches. In 1986, he retired after 40 years as amachinist with King Edward/Swisher. Preceding him in death: hisbeloved wife, Dorothy; two siblings, Alma Thompson and Rev.Vernon Johns (Ramona). Family mourning his loss are hisdaughter, Jacqueline Johns and her daughter, his granddaughter,Genevieve Johns, St. Augustine; his son, Sam Johns (Brenda),Jacksonville, and his daughter, Faye Williams (Mike) and her family,Vanna Odom (Tim) and their son (Great-Great Grandson) Timothy, andseven additional great-grandchildren: Macy, Billy, Brandon, Hunter,Gunter, Destiny, Beau, all of MacClenny; his sister, Myrtle Alvarez(Harold), Starke; nieces and nephews including: Lisa Rodgers (Paul),Jimmy Alvarez (Sandra), Gregory Alvarez (Kris) all of Starke; AnnFloyd (Larry), Jacksonville and Teresa Tomlinson, Crystal River;sister-in-law, Margie Grier (Earl), Jacksonville; cousin, Warren Johns(Vivian), Jacksonville; and Vivian Browning, St. Augustine. Funeralservices for Mr. Johns will be Monday, June 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. inthe chapel at Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home, 620 E. Nona St., Starke,FL 32091.
