In Loving Memory of Barbara Nelson Keller March 22, 1950 - May 24, 2025Barbara Nelson Kellerbeloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and treasured friendpassed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, surrounded by love, the very gift she gave so freely throughout her life.Born on March 22, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, Barbara was the cherished only child of Jack Lee and Merle Maude Nelson. She spent her early childhood between the Midwest and the North Carolina mountains she adored, embracing both the gentle charm of small-town life and the quiet beauty of nature.A proud graduate of Gainesville High School, Class of 1968, Barbara met her first husband of 22 years, Van Sirmopoulos, in Gainesville. Together, they raised four daughters: Alexis Lynn Heskett (Patrick); twin daughters, Anastasia Lee Stephenson (Jody) and Jacquelyn Barbara Sirmopoulos; and Vanessa Kali Smithers. As an only child, Barbara had always dreamed of a large, lively familyand she created one full of warmth, connection, and unwavering love.Barbara maintained a close and enduring bond with her former son-in-law, Kenneth Pressley, as well as with Lennie and Helen Sirmopoulos. She is also survived by her Aunt Karen Lawler and first cousins Jeffrey, David, and Patrick Lawler; Theresa Waybright; Richard and Jeff Hollar.In 1975, Barbara and Van made their home in Keystone Heights, where she spent the next 50 years raising her daughters and building a lifetime of cherished memories. Barbara became a beloved mother and grandmother not only to her children and grandchildren, but also to their friendsoffering guidance, laughter, and a sense of belonging to all lucky enough to be part of her world.Affectionately known as "Yaya and Grams," she welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart. Her grandchildrenCrystal Munoz, Vannessa Prevatt (Joel), Madison Heskett, Fallyn Thomas, Taylor Thacker (Dalton), Ricky Knight (Nikki), Tye Stephenson, Sydney Stephenson, Lexi Anne Crovitz, Lane Pressley (Kristin), Emily Pressley, Kloey Pressley-Myers (Chase), and Kendall Mae Lewisremember their Yaya as fierce, bold, sassy, compassionate, graceful, glamorous, spunky, and full of light. She was their heartstone, their safe place, their angel.Her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren: Vanessa and Max; Hazeleigh and Hayden; Summer and Bodhi; and Tate, Wiley Anne, and MaryAnn Graceeach of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride.Barbara is also survived by her constant companions, pups Jake and Khara Belle, who never left her side.She found delight in travel, spontaneous "dates" with her grandchildren, and decades of laughter and loyalty shared with her dearest friends, Mary Looney and Patricia Hagglund. Her sparkle, sass, and strength lit up every room she entered.Barbara Keller lived a life rooted in love, marked by resilience, and surrounded by those who adored her. She will be deeply missed, joyfully remembered, and forever celebrated.A celebration of Barbaras life will be held on Saturday, June 14th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Keystone Beach Pavilion for family and close friends. In true Yaya fashion, this will be a casual, joy-filled gathering, with colorful attire encouraged in honor of her favorite seasonsummertime.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue, where Barbara adopted her beloved pup, Dory.
