Obituary

Barbara Miller Barbara Miller, 86, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2013. She was born on November 6, 1926 in Lincoln, Illinois and knew at an early age that she was destined to be a nurse. Due to hard times during the Depression and being a part of a large family, it was an impossible dream. Then, as fate would have it, World War II happened and Barbara and her friend wasted no time signing up for the Army Cadet Nurse program. She was trained at Mennonite Hospital and had great joy helping to deliver babies into the world. At graduation, the war ended and Barbara began her career as a hospital RN. She met and married Victor Miller (Army Air Corps Flying Tigers) and moved to Jacksonville after he was transferred by State Farm Insurance. She was a wonderful mother of two daughters. She was one of the first employees hired by Baptist Medical Center. She was a devout Baptist and loved sharing the vision she had of Jesus prior to her husband's death in 1999. She was a prayer warrior and always put others ahead of herself. She was known for her variety of pies that were said "could make a grown man cry." She loved working in her yard and growing beautiful roses. She is survived by her daughters Leann Dickinson (Gary), Beth Ball and grandsons Justin Ball, Blake Dickinson and Miller Dickinson. She is also survived by her brother Forrest Downing and sisters Bertie Bowns, Dorothy Hoerbert and Virginia Broughton and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Sunrise Senior Living, 4870 Belfort Road on Friday April 12, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Sunrise, Heartland Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care and Dr. George Camacho for many years of care, kindness and compassion.
