Mr. Benjamin "Benny" E. Sapp age 66 of Melrose passed away at his home Thursday, December 22, 2022. He was born June 26, 1956, in Gainesville to the late Albert "Gene" and Patricia (McElveen) Sapp. Benny graduated from Interlachen High School in 1974 where he started playing football in 1968. He retired as a truck driver following many years of employment with the Kennedy Space Center and Pepsi. While living in Mims he was an active and dedicated member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Scottsmoor. Two years ago he made Melrose his home and began attending Church of Christ in Melrose. First and foremost Benny loved God and his family; he also enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, billiards, and athletic sports. Benny was also known for his building and refurbishing talents, being and avid Florida Gator fan, but most of all he was known for being an all-around good and Godly man that was loved and will be missed by so many. Benny leaves behind his children Bobby Sapp (Sandra) of Orlando and Tracy Peaden (Donnie) of Melbourne along with siblings Susan Sapp Hettel (George) of Melrose, James Daniel Sapp (Kristina) Gainesville, and David McEleveen Sapp (Vicky) of La Plata, MD. He was also lovingly called "Grandpa Benny" by Emma Grace Peaden, Hannah and Christelle. Viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Eliam Cemetery and the graveside service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gene Morgan officiating.
