Bennie Jo Littleton Martin, age 90, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in Gainesville, Florida. She was born June 21, 1923, in Vannah, Georgia, to Benjamin and Susie Littleton. She attended Bessie Tift College before her marriage to Paul Lanier Martin, Sr., her husband of 55 years.Bennie worked in the Registrar's office at the University of Florida for 27 years, rising in responsibility from clerk to Assistant to the Registrar. Bennie and Paul were loving, supportive parents to their three children, Paul, Suzanne and Karen. They were faithful members and servants of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville. Avid Gator fans and motor home campers, they traveled to as many out-of-town games as their schedules allowed. They were grandparents par excellence.After her husband's death in 1996, Bennie remained active in her church, family and social life, volunteering at the hospital, her church, and with Hospice. She remained the loving and wise confidante and family matriarch. She is survived by 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.A service celebrating the life of Bennie Martin will be held Saturday,February 22, at 11 AM, at the First Baptist Church of McIntosh, located on Hwy 441 at Avenue F, with a reception immediately following. Interment will be at the McIntosh Cemetery, with arrangements by Forest Meadows Funeral Home (352) 378-2528.
