Obituary

Mrs. Bertha S. Ward 102, of Keystone Heights passed away on Thursday May 5, 2011 in Sanford. Mrs. Ward was born in Enigma, Georgia on April 22, 1909 to the late Lovick Pierce and Willa Shippey. In 1958 she had moved to Keystone Heights from Jacksonville and was a homemaker. Mrs. Ward was also a member of the Gadara Baptist Church, an Avon representative, and was well known for her peanut and pecan brittle. She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Leamon Ward. Survivors are her daughter; Carol Hodges and her husband Dr. G. E. Hodges of Sanford, her son, Ronald Leamon Ward and his wife Jane of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her siblings, Payel Shippey of Edison, GA, J.E. Shippey of Jacksonville, 6 Grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Viewing for Mrs. Ward will be one hour prior to the service. Funeral services for will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 1 Oclock in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. G.E. Hodges and Pastor Ward Hodges officiating. Burial will follow at Dekle Cemetery in Lake Butler. Arrangements are under the care of JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 340 E.
