Bessie Marie Burrell

Bessie Marie Burrell, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on September 29, 2015. She was born on December 2, 1918 near Branford, Florida to Marsden and Edith Wynn. She moved to Jacksonville after graduating from Suwannee High School. She founded Burrell's Child Care Center and subsequently Burrell's Camp Chippewa. After retirement Bessie enjoyed gardening and fishing. She was a member of Hendricks Ave. Baptist Church for many years and later Fruit Cove Baptist Church. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Burrell and is survived by her sons, Leland Vincent Burrell and George Thomas Burrell, Jr., grandchildren Michael Oliver Burrell, Leland Vincent Burrell, Jr. (Erica) and Lesley Ann Burrell Lancaster (Adam) and several great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sister, Lois Prevatt. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at George H. Hewell and Son funeral home at 4140 University Blvd. S. Jacksonville, FL 32216. Funeral services will be held the next morning on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
