Betsy Jane Washer (ne Adams) arrived in the world at lunchtime and departed shortly after supper, having decided she had been 99 "long enough". Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Betsy had a special talent for telling stories as well as attracting them. She met and married her husband Norman while he was serving in the US Navy and toured the world with him during their 75 years of marriage. But Jacksonville was where she made a home, raised two children, and served in her community. A voracious reader, Betsys dream was to have a library in her home, which Norman built for her over 30 years ago and now houses thousands of books and she has read them all. She also had a lifelong devotion to her hobbies in visual arts, especially drawing and painting gourds. Betsy was active in the Garden Club of Jacksonville and a lifelong member of the Inner Wheel of the Rotary Club of North Jacksonville. She and Norman were also members of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, where he served as a Deacon and they both served on the Counting Committee for years. She was preceded in death by her daughter DiAnn Kirkman and husband Norman. Survivors include son, Christopher Washer (Julie); grandchildren, Oliver Roberts (Jodi), Zachary Lee, and Gina Lackey (Elijah); great-granddaughters, Kayla Higginbotham (Ryan) and Violet Lackey; great-great-grandchildren, Addelynn and Cooper Higginbotham. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206 with Rev. Stephen Clifton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery..There are no gallery images.VisitationWednesday, October 26, 202210:00 AM - 11:00 AMGeorge H.
