Betty Jean Glisson

Mrs. Betty Jean Glisson age 76, of Starke passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. She was born October 29, 1941 in Jackson Springs, North Carolina to Therese and Elizabeth Glover. Mrs. Glisson has been a longtime resident of Starke and former owner and operator of the Gulf Gas Station. For many years prior to retiring, she was manager of the Shell-Island Food Store in Starke. When she wasnt working you could find Betty going to yard sales or standing on the bank fishing; she also loved watching birds, games shows and listening to country music. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Deborah McDonald, son Charles Glisson, a sister Maxine and a brother Jimmy. Her survivors are her husband of 40 years, Larry Glisson of Starke along with her children Johnny Ward (Liz) of Aberdeen, North Carolina, Ralph Ward of Jacksonville, Roger Ward of Starke and Cindy Russell (Brett) Flagler Beach. Also left behind are her sisters Barbara Ingram Ellerbe of North Carolina, Helen Griffin of Jackson Springs, North Carolina and brothers Curtis Glover of West End, North Carolina, Gerald Glover of Candor, North Carolina, Ronnie Glover and Steve Glover both of Jackson Springs, North Carolina and Darryl Glover of Asheboro, North Carolina along with thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A memorial service for Mrs. Glisson will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with Pastor Steve Conner officiating.
