Obituary

Betty Fewox Halman, age 92, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on February 2, 2026, following a brief illness. She was born on July 2, 1933, to Rev. Aubon Lesley Fewox and Merle Eula Carter. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1951 and married her sweetheart John "Leonard" Halman that same year. Betty worked in the Engineering Department of BellSouth Telecommunications company for 25 years while raising a family. After retirement in 1986 Betty and Leonard moved to Franklin, NC, where they embraced mountain life. They enjoyed gardening, canning, bird watching, genealogy and spent time traveling across the country. Betty joined the Smokey Mountain Quilters Guild where she learned to quilt and found a passion for collecting beautiful handmade quilts. She was a member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters Cynthia Ann (Vernon) Pierce, Linda H. (David) White, and Susan Gail Halman; son Johnny L. Halman, Jr; 7 Grandchildren; 23 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Leonard Halman, parents, sister Alice Turknett and brother Lavern Fewox.

The family will receive friends on Saturday February 7 from 11:30am-12:30 pm at Moloney-Hewell Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd S. Jacksonville, FL. Services will follow at 12:30pm, officiated by Pastor Tim Maynard. Interment immediately following service at Greenlawn Cemetery.
