Betty Hilgendorf passed with peace and grace on November 20, 2017, five days after celebrating her 93rd birthday with her family. She is survived by her two children, Edward Hilgendorf III and Betty Jo Rains; five grandchildren, Edward Hilgendorf IV, Henry Hilgendorf, Jessica Miller, Taylor Rains, and Tyler Rains; and her younger sister, Dorothy McCaskill. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward, in 2007.Betty was born in Savannah, Georgia to a large family. They suffered early hardship when their father unexpectedly passed away, resulting in the children living at an orphanage for a period of time. The siblings later moved to Miami, where Betty met Edward. They were married in 1942. Betty tirelessly encouraged her husband to advance in the military and he retired from the Air Force as a Major. They relocated to Gainesville, where he worked for BellSouth. Betty made an enormous impact on the Gainesville community, establishing her own real estate and property management company, Betty Hilgendorf Real Estate, which she operated for more than 30 years.Funeral services will be held at Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central, 4100 NW 39th Ave, in the Chapel in the Meadows, on November 27 at 10 am, followed by a reception at Sal's Place, 5109 NW 39th Ave. Funeral Home Forest Meadows Funeral Home 725 NW 23rd Avenue Gainsville FL - 32609 US 352-378-2528
