Obituary

Betty Mae Kennedy Buckenmeyer Hodsdon was born September 19, 1926. She passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 18th2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Molly Kennedy, husband Ray Buckenmeyer, son Roger Buckenmeyer and husband Vern Hodsdon. Betty is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Jim) Carlson of Hurricane, Utah and Lisa Casler of Sayre, PA, stepchildren Sylvia Ellis Haworth (Charles) and Vern Hodsdon (Debbie), 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.Betty grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and in 1972, moved to Gainesville, Florida with her first husband. After his passing in 1983, she opened a small restaurant in Worthington Springs. Vern Hodsdon, Sr. was a frequent visitor and after a time, started courting Betty. She said he was the love of her life and they married October 3rd1986 and had a wonderful 34 years of marriage. They loved their North Gainesville Baptist Church family and attended church as long as they were able. They enjoyed camping in the North Carolina mountains and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Betty was an avid reader, especially enjoying novels. She was also a lover of animals, especially cats. Betty loved baking and the family all time favorite was her sour cream pound cake.Betty was a loving and giving quiet soul and will be greatly missed by family and friends. A special thanks to the staff at the Villas of Killearn Lakes and Big Bend Hospice for the care they gave our mother and friend.Arrangements are being made by Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Gainesville, Florida.
