Betty Lou (Cooper) Joyner went to her Heavenly Home on May 8th at St Vincent's Community Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida. Born October 18,1928, in Nashville, North Carolina, to parents, Dewey Lee Cooper, Sr. and Sarah Lillian Cooper; Mrs. Joyner attended Coopers School and went on to be a nurse. She fell in love and married her Navy sweetheart, Jasper L Joyner, was stationed all over the United States and raised three children in the process. She was a member of Normandy Garden Club, loved crafting, crocheting and sewing but her passion was cooking. She fried chicken for the Wednesday night suppers at Normandy Park Baptist Church, where she was the longest living member and part of the Senior Saints Sunday School class. Betty loved people, never met a stranger and would talk the ear off anyone that would listen. Her stories usually started with, "I was born and raised on a tobacco farm in Rocky Mount North Carolina,,," A proud Navy wife, Mom and friend, she was always ready to help out if she could. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jasper L Joyner, two infant sons, Kenneth and Steven, and granddaughter, Meghan Ewan. Survivors include sons, Jack Joyner, (Marsha) of Marietta, GA, Mike Joyner (Kim) of Cedar City, UT and daughter, Debbie Rose (James) of Jacksonville. She had 9 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. A viewing will be held at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S., Jacksonville Florida 32216 on Friday, May 11th from 6 to 8 in the evening. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Wilson, North Carolina at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 16, 2018. Flowers will be accepted or you may donate to your favorite charity in her name.
