Mrs. Betty Lewis Montford age 81 of Starke passed away Saturday evening January 2, 2010 at E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville surrounded by her family. Mrs. Montford was born on March 31, 1928 in Montgomery, AL to the late Albert and Lovdie Pannell Lewis, and graduated from Georgia State College for Women earning a Masters Degree in Education. She taught school in various towns throughout South Georgia. She met her husband of 49 years the late Henry B. Montford, Jr. of Glenwood, GA while teaching. Mrs. Montford more recently retired as the Owner/Operator of Stuckeys Pecan Shop in Starke and worked as a bookkeeper for Community State Bank also in Starke for several years. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Starke where she was a choir member, member of the Joyful Noise Makers singing group, member of the Weslyan Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women, and Prime Timers. She also began the Grandparents Sunday School Class for 4 year olds. Survivors are: daughters: Deborah Montford Pittman (Thomas) of Benton, Arkansas; Marsha Montford Closson of Fernandina; Cindy Montford Ross (Johnny) of Bonaire, GA; son: Bob Lewis Montford (Tammy Jo) of Waldo; sister: Virginia Clendinen of Cocoa, FL; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild. The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church of Starke on Monday, January 4, 2010 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services for Mrs. Montford will be on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Moore officiating. Interment will be private in Ryals Memorial Cemetery in Glenwood, GA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
