Obituary

Billye Arledge Dowdy, a beloved prayer warrior, devoted believer, and treasured member of the High Springs First Baptist Church and community, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on August 5, 1933, and raised in West Texas, Billye often said with a smile, "You can take the gal out of West Texas, but you can't take the West Texas out of the gal!"

Billye's life was a beautiful tapestry, woven with unwavering faith, boundless love, and a heart for service. She touched many lives-both young and old. As an elementary school teacher, she nurtured the minds of children while planting seeds of Jesus' love. Later, as the minister of education at First Baptist Church of High Springs, she poured her heart into guiding and uplifting others, especially women whom she counseled with compassion and grace.

Her deep love for music was shared freely with her church choir and she found special joy in leading the youth choir.

Her legacy of kindness, laughter, joy, and devotion continues to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to carry her memory forward.

Billye is lovingly survived by her daughter, Dr. Kaye Dowdy Westmark (Dr. Richard Meredith Westmark), son, David William Dowdy, grandchildren Maxwell Drake Westmark and Luke Alexander Westmark, sister, Vicky Debol (Daniel Debol), and niece, Cindy Peavey (Jim Peavey, Joshua Dylan Peavy, Kristen Nicole Peavey). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Joe H. Dowdy- "Her Joe".

We invite you to celebrate the remarkable and joyful life of Billye Arledge Dowdy. The funeral service will be held on October 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of High Springs, followed by a graveside service at High Springs City Cemetery. Public viewing will take place on October 17, 2025, from 6:00 -8:00pm at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Christian Academy in High Springs.
