Bobby Lamar Williamson, age 91, passed away on March 23rd, 2024 at 6:25 a.m. at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. His childhood years were spent in and around Atlanta, Georgia. Upon graduation from high school, he married his childhood sweetheart Helen Mary Hoffman. They remained happilymarried for 69 years until her death in 2022. He joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served honorably for 20 years, attaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, Aviation Fire Control. He was stationed on the USS Forrestal (CVA-59) during the Vietnam War and survived the disaster aboardship in the Gulf of Tonkin on July 29th, 1967. Naval honors include Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, and Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star. Upon retirement, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology. He workedfor Baxter International Corporation before retiring. He loved archery, hunting, and fishing. He was active in the senior community, serving as president of the Senior Association on Sanibel Island, Florida for sometime. He is survived by one brother, Barry, three children, Steve, Keith, and Wayne, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by three nieces, three nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, son Michael, brother Clayton, and nieceCindy. The funeral service will be held at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South Jacksonville, FL 32216 with Dr. Terry N. Collins Officiating on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 11AM, burial will follow in the Mandarin Cemetery. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
