Obituary

Mrs. Bonnie Lee Reed, age 73 of Middleburg passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville following a brief illness. She was born on August 5, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, to Randolf Reid and Ruth (Sayer) Ampey.

Bonnie earned her high school diploma in 1970 at Kubasaki Senior High in Okinawa, Japan. While growing up with her father in the military she was able live and make memories in not only Okinawa, Japan, but in Anchorage, Alaska during the 1964 megaquake of magnitude 9.2, Berlin, Germany, Virginia, California, and Florida.

Mrs. Reed was proudly a homemaker, successfully raising three children and dedicating her life to caring for her family and ensuring they felt loved and supported. In 1999 Bonnie became a Certified Nursing Assistant from River Garden Training Center in Jacksonville; and in 2009 became a certified massage therapist (AMB Professional).

She devoted her time to helping others manage pain, illnesses, and stress.

Bonnie was also a woman of faith, deeply rooted in her Christian beliefs, loving her Savior Jesus and reading the Bible. She was a firm believer in prayer and seeing dragonflies would remind her of GOD and The Holy Spirit. Gardening was also considered her "happy place"—a beautiful reflection of her nurturing spirit. She became a Master Gardner in Virginia and later in life she worked for a time maintaining flower beds at Eagle Harbor in Fleming Island. She also enjoyed writing, short quotes, sewing with family, reading books at the beach, and uplifting peaceful music.

Bonnie was known as the most thoughtful, sacrificing, and giving person, and will be deeply appreciated, loved, and missed.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 55 years John Reed, Sr., and their three children David Reed, John Reed, Jr., and Michelle Smith, along with siblings Diana, Ron, Karen, Martha, Delores, and Sharon. There was also a special bond with her grandchildren: Sara Reed, Laura Reed, Josh Reed, Evan Smith, Leah Smith, and Jesse Reed whom all lovingly called her "MiMi". Also left behind is family from West Virginia, Michigan, and New Mexico.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
