Brenda Adkins

Mrs. Brenda Adkins age 74, of Hawthorne passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville. She was born June 16, 1944 in Carrie, Kentucky to the late Harvey and Susan (Spencer) Short. Mrs. Adkins has been a resident of Hawthorne for the past 25 years; she was a homemaker and worked extensively with In Home Health Care as a Caregiver. She loved playing Bingo at the American Legion Post 202 in Keystone Heights where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Adkins also enjoyed playing cards, taking care of her special pups but most of all she adored her family and the time she spent with them. Her survivors are her husband of 50 years Earl Adkins of Hawthorne and their two daughters Deborah "Debbie" Dotson of Lake Butler and Bobbie Ward of Starke; four brothers Willie Short (Cynthia) of Providence, Leonard Short (Paula) of Lake City, Clyde Short (Martha) of Raiford and Hiriam Short of Brooker. She was known as "Grandma" to five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Also left behind are a host of additional family members, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation for Mrs. Adkins will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.
