Bret Nolan Brookins, born January 16, 1954, passed away October 10, 2014 after a courageous battle against cancer. Bret was preceded in death by his father Harold Brookins and survived by his mother Joyce Brookins; a sister, Brenda Adair; a brother, Lee (Patricia) Brookins; four nieces, Robin (Keith) Hood Powers, Wendy (Laura Hackett) Hood Martin, Anna Brookins English and Kristen (Mike) Brookins Reiemka; one nephew, Jeremy ( Jennifer) Brookins and eight grandnieces and nephews. Bret was a proud graduate of Englewood High School class of 1973. He loved his job at Bug Out Service, University Church, his church of over 15 years, and his family along with many friends. He was a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Reserves Marine Posse. He will be missed by so many who loved him so dearly and showed it so well in his last weeks of life. For those who knew him there is no doubt about his Eternal Destiny which will be joined by many of us in the not so distant future. Funeral services will be held at University Baptist Church, 5520 University Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32216, on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00am with Pastor Frank Ciresi officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery. Donations to Community Hospice in his name or flowers are welcomed.
