Bruce Douglas Mackey, affectionally known as Doug, passed away in Gainesville, FL on Feb 21, 2024. Born in Cumberland MD on Oct 31, 1947. Doug was the son of late Bruce Melvin and Margaret Elizabeth Mackey. He was receded in death by his sister, Marsha D. Goss and brother Brian G. Mackey.Doug was a graduate of Allegany High School. Following his graduation, he settled in Florida where he spent the remainder of his life. He enjoyed a career with Eastern and Pan Am Airlines, retiring in Dec. 1991. After his airline career, Doug pursued higher education earning a degree in Occupational Therapy, Florida International University. He concluded his professional journey as an Occupational Therapist at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, retiring in August, 2013.An enthusiastic traveler, Doug embarked on numerous adventures worldwide, documenting his experiences through his photography for the enjoyment of friends and family. His commitment to his community was evident through his regular volunteer work at local library and the Adult Services- Literacy Program. Doug is survived by his devoted wife and travel companion of 40 years, Anna of Gainesville, FL.; niece, Breann D'Atri of Cumberland; and nephew Ryan Mackey of Cumberland.A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Gainesville, FL and Miami, FLIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Nature Conservancy in Arlington, VA or Friends of WLRN in Miami, FL.Doug will be remembered as a kind and generous person, and the joy he brought to life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
