Carlisle Merriman Jones

Carlisle Merriman Jones passed away on August 31, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Madrid, AL on November 13, 1927. A funeral service for Carlisle will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 10AM in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South Jacksonville, Florida 32216, followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. He is preceded in death by his mother Ida Jones, his father Charles Monroe Jones and a son Kenneth C. Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty six years Mrs. Betty N. Jones, a son Charle F. Jones (Beth); a daughter Cindy J. Wilks (Andy); four Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren. Carlisle graduated from Landon High class of 1947; he was a paratrooper in the US Army. He was the owner of Newsom Fence Company (since) 1955. He was a member of the San Jose Baptist Church, he was a 32nd degree Mason and a Morocco Temple Shriner. He refereed High school Football for twenty five years. He was head of the Chain Crew of UF for over fifty years. He was proudly inducted into the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame for fifty years of service and the Chains for the Jag's. He was an avid Lionel Train collector and a member of the Train Collectors Assoc. (TCA). A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 between the hours of 6-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to the Earl B.
