Carol Florence Engels Harmon A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Carol Florence Engels Harmon, 86, will be held at 11:00AM Monday, October 7, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida, with Monsignor Mortimer Danaher officiating. Entombment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Born Feb. 15, 1927 in Northbrook, Illinois to Elmer John Engels and Emma Florence Cissell Engels, Mrs. Harmon died Sept. 21, 2013. She graduated from the University of Miami where she majored in Spanish and was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. She remained active in Kappa Kappa Gamma her entire adult life, serving as the National Bylaws Chairman for many years. She was also an active member of Toastmasters, International. In 1950, she married her college sweetheart, Alston Orlando Harmon, Jr. known fondly as Lando. Mr. Harmon died May 9, 1973. Mrs. Harmon worked as a legal secretary for 18 years before moving to Jacksonville. She then began her most favorite job , being a mother to her only child, Laura Lee. In 1980, she began working for H&R Block in their Executive Tax Services department, retiring in 2000. Mrs. Harmon was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church from 1968-2002. She leaves behind in Pawleys Island, SC her daughter, Laura Harmon Tiller; her grandsons, Ryan, Hampton and Jackson; a brother, Don Engels and his five children, Don, John, Mike, Matt and Andy and their families. She was very loved and will be very missed. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S., where friends may call from 9:00AM until 9:00PM on Sunday.
