Carol W. Thomas, 91, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio on December 6, 1933 to Arthur Wehmhoener and Magaret Pelot Wehmhoener. Carol was married to Billy Thomas.Carol attended Vanderbilt University. She worked as a community activist, tumor registrar in Boston for Brigham Womens Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and caring for her dog Zoey. She was also actively involved in Nuba: Neighbors for a Better Alachua, Meals on Wheels, and the Gainesville Labor Coalition. Carol was very conscious about the needs of her community and wanted to do as much as she could!Carol is survived by her daughter, Martel Douglas (Mark) of Santa Cruz, California and sons, Michael Thomas of High Springs, Florida and David Thomas of Lynnwood, Washington.She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy S. Thomas.In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory can be sent to Porters Community Center, 522 SW 3rd St, Gainesville, Florida 32601.A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery, 7204 SE County Road 234, Gainesville.
