Catherine Lester Mackenzie, 87, passed away on Sunday June 8, 2014 in Jacksonville. She was born March 1, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia to Joseph E. May & Louise White May. Catherine was an active volunteer and was the founder of the Northeastern Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Catherine is survived by her son, Joseph Reid Lester and his wife, Pat of Chatham, NJ; a sister, Marilyn A. May of Ellijay, GA; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. Private burial services will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery.
