Charles Lee Hamilton passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025 while surrounded by family. Charles was born in Gainesville, Georgia, to Lillie Whelchel Hamilton. He graduated from Lyman Hall High School and attended North Georgia College and the University of Georgia, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in business. After joining the Army, he was stationed at Fort Devens, MA where he served in the Army Security Service. Upon returning to Georgia, he married the love of his life, Vera Smith. He and Vera were married for 63 years. Charles and Vera built a strong life together first in Gainesville, Georgia and then in Gainesville, FL where he was with the Sherwin Williams Corporation until starting his own business. Charles loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at their mountain home in Gatlinburg, TN. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Gainesville, FL.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Vera Smith Hamilton, his oldest son, Charles Lee Hamilton, Jr. (Chuck), and his sister, Lavonia Hamilton Mundy. He is survived by his son Casey Nesbitt Hamilton (Wendy) of Newberry, FL; Daughter-in-law, Debbie Hamilton of Acworth, GA; grandchildren Christine Leia Hamilton Jordan (John Paul) of Yukon, OK ; Shelby Hamilton Karrer (Dustin) of Austin, TX; Alison Hamilton Webb (Mason) of Acworth, GA; five great grandsons Zachary Jordan, JJ Jordan, Christopher Gary Jordan, Charlie Webb, and Max Webb; niece Jeanine Mundy Jackson (David) of Vestavia, AL, a great niece Lillie Hull (Stephen) and great nephew Will Jackson; and one great-great niece, Francis Hull.
The family would like to thank Haven Hospice for the loving care given to Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Westside Baptist Church, Main Campus, 10000 W Newberry Road, Gainesville, FL.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606 (1-800-727-1889) or to a charity of one's choice.
