Charles Randolph Hicks

Mr. Charles R. Hicks age 85, of Keystone Heights passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Shands Hospital in Starke. He was born in Waldo on June 19, 1932 to the late Otto B. and Mary Jane (Cox) Hicks, Sr. and had been a longtime resident of the Keystone Heights and Waldo area. Mr. Hicks attended Waldo High School, the University of Florida in Gainesville and was employed by Sperry-Rand Electronics for almost twenty years. Given his love of the Smokey Mountains, where he enjoyed camping and visiting waterfalls, he decided to move to Franklin, NC where he and his wife owned and operated a motel and restaurant business. Mr. Hicks also enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and had a proficient skill for doing carpentry work, and was an avid Gator Football fan. Mr. Hicks was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for many years where he loved to sing in the choir and had a great passion for AWANA. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving and dedicated wife of 66 years, JoAnne (Dykes) Hicks and their three children; Debra Dale (Michael) of Orange Park, Randy Hicks (Tena) of Waldo and Laura Wilkinson (Glen) of Brooks, Georgia along with one brother, Otto B. Hicks, Jr. (Lillian) of Morriston. He was also "Grandaddy" and "Gaga" to eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Stanland officiating. Interment will be private at Santa Fe Cemetery.
