Charles Eugene Johnson

Charles Eugene Johnson, age 86, passed away on Sunday February 17, 2019 in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday February 21st, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday February 22 in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., with full Military Honors.Charles was born in Cordele, Georgia on May 1, 1932 to Lonnie & Essie Johnson. After high school he joined the United States Navy, where he served with honor and dignity until his retirement. Upon his retirement from service, in 1977, Charles settled in Jacksonville. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 129 and the Mayport Fleet Reserve.Charles is survived by his wife, Doris L. Johnson; daughters Melody Jorudd & Michelle Canaday; a son, Charles Jr.; 6 grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Monroe; sister-in-law, Geneva Cobb; a very special nephew that he thought of as a son, Sonny Hall (Barbara); nephew, Ronnie Hall (Angie); nephew, Michael Padgett (Debra); nephew, James Padgett; niece, Margaret Williams; niece, Carolyn Smith and by many friends throughout his life & service..Receiving FriendsGeorge H.
