Charles Ray "Chuck" Barber

Charles Barber STARKE-Charles Ray "Chuck" Barber, age 72, of Starke, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the VA Medical Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born on August 22, 1943 in Chipley, Florida to William "Fleet" and Stella (Cumble) Barber and moved to Bradford County from Lake Butler. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 22 years of service. He served two tours in Vietnam, drove a semi for ten years, and owned a business for 15 years. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by: his father; mother, a brother, and a sister. He is survived by: his wife of 20 years, Margaret Jean Barber; children, Charles Ray (Robin) Barber Jr. of Murphy, NC, and Jeanette (Stephen) McDonald of Lakeland, FL; stepsons, Jon Sabo of Georgia and Scott Sabo of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Helen Ward of Plant City, Ula Mae Avant of Valrico, Katie (James) Fleming of Plant City, and Eva Nell (Russell) Griffin of Dover. Services will be held at Bayless Highway Baptist Church at 2 pm on Friday, February 19, 2016 with a visitation one hour before service. Interment will be at a later date in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home of Starke.
