Mr. Charles David West, 62, of Melrose, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the V.A. Hospital in Gainesville. David was born on December 23, 1949 to the late Edward D. and Jewel Anderson West of Duval County, FL. David graduated from Orange Park High School in 1968 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In recent years he donated his time and efforts in establishing the Vietnam War memorial at Camp Blanding. He was pre-deceased by his sister Doris Jean West Geoffrion and he is survived by his five brothers, Albert of Green Cove Springs, Wallace of Melrose, Michael of Orange Park, Johnny (Linda) of Keystone Heights and James (Mary Jane) of Mardela Springs, MD. Two sisters, Patricia West of Keystone Heights and Shirley Gotsch of Imperial, MO; Cousin Leon Haselwood of Middleburg and many nieces and nephews. He will greatly missed. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 3 oclock at the JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 340 E. Walker Dr., Keystone Heights with Pastor James Peoples officiating. Burial of cremains will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 1 oclock at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Pallative Care at the Malcom Randall V.A.
