Charlie Mae Walton Charlie Mae Walton, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Born in Macon, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Alline and Ernest C. Walton. She was predeceased by brother, Ernest Walton of Jacksonville, FL, brother, James Walton of Orange City, FL and niece, Margaret Martin of Fayetteville, NC.Mae is survived by brother, Frank E. Walton (Betty) of Simsbury, CT, niece, Kent Walton Rogers (Tom) of Simsbury, CT, nephews, Ernest Walton, Jr (Irene) of Jacksonville, FL, Robert L. Walton (Sol) of Orlando, FL, Christopher Walton (Nikki) of Tampa, FL, and Frank E. Walton, Jr (Alison) of Jacksonville, FL along with 9 great nieces and nephews. A resident of Jacksonville for over 80 years, Mae was active in many professional and civic organizations and in her church. Hers was truly a life devoted to serving others. Working much of her career as an independent insurance agent, she was in her 41st year of employment with Donavan Insurance Agency at the time of her death. During her years in the insurance industry, Mae was proudly recognized as the first female Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in the state of Florida, was a charter member of the Insurance Women of Jacksonville, FL and taught insurance classes for over 30 years. She truly enjoyed her work and took great pride in the fact that she had third generation clients. Mae also served on various other boards and committees within the community.A member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church since 1937, Mae loved her church and her church family. She served in a variety of ways throughout the years. She was Assistant Church Treasurer for over 40 years, a life-long choir member, a Scout Leader, head of the Pioneer Department, a member of the Lydia Circle, and a participant in the Senior Adult Ministry. In addition, Mae was a Deacon of the church, served as an Elder and in 2002, was elected Living Saint in recognition of her contributions and many hours of faithful service. Visitation will be on Monday, March 26, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. A service celebrating Maes life will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. A private interment will follow later in the day at Oaklawn Cemetery.Memorials may be made to The South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church Music Fund, 2137 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207 or to the Thornwell Home for Children, P.
