Obituary

Charlotte Meaders Duke Charlotte Meaders Duke passed away surrounded by her loving family July 14, 2012. She was daughter of Barney Cartledge and Merle Pittman Meaders. Charlotte was born in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Jacksonville at an early age. She attended local schools and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She was a secretary for the State Board of Health and retired as a Trust Officer for the Atlantic Bank. She met her loving husband, Allen W. Duke, while working for the Jacksonville Airport. They had two beautiful daughters, Denise D. Hunt and Dale D. Regan.She was predeceased by her parents, Barney Cartledge and Merle Pittman Meaders, two brothers, Barney Cartledge Meaders, Jr. and Henry McCullough Meaders, and her loving daughter Dale Duke Regan.She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Allen W. Duke, her daughter Denise Duke Hunt and her husband Russell of Turtletown, TN, and her two wonderful grandsons, John Allen Regan of Macon, GA and Franklin Duke Regan of Jacksonville, FL.Charlotte was an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother; a true role model for all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and her many dear friends as well as the nurses and staff of Glenmoor Retirement Community.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd, S., Jacksonville, FL at 2 P.M., with the Rev. Amos Healy, Wilderness Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, VA, Rev. Michael Ellis, Rector, St. Francis-in-the Field, Ponte Vedra, FL, and Rev. Gail Werstlein, University City United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Entombment will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery.To honor Charlottes spirit and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dale D. Regan Memorial Fund, Episcopal School of Jacksonville, 4455 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, 32207, Northeast Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32257, or a favorite charity of your choice.
