Mrs. Cherry Ann "Shirley" Kraus age 73, of Starke formerly of North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at her residence. Shirley was born on December 8, 1948 in Starke to the late Willis and Gracie (Douglas) Thornton. She was of the United Methodist Faith and prior to retirement worked as a bus driver for both Bradford and Putnam County School Boards. She was a devoted wife and mother, but her greatest ambition was to be the best grandmother possible. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Thornton, and William Thornton. Survivors are: her husband, Walter Kraus of Starke, children, Dennis Starling of Starke, Loretta Lucas (Joe) of Lake City, Howard Starling (Joy) of Starke, Walters children, Troy Kraus (Lori) of Maryland and Melissa Jones (Casey) of Yulee, brother, Pete Thornton (Susan) of Hampton. Also left are ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at Bayless Highway Baptist Church on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Mike Conner officiating.
