Mr. Chester Lee Barkley, age 76 of Green Cove Springs, passed away, Sunday, April 14, 2013. Mr. Barkley was born December 8, 1936 to the late Fletcher Eunice and Rachel Lucille (Lions) Barkley in Ft. Payne, Alabama. He had worked in the trucking industry and owned and operated his own business for over 25 years. Mr. Barkley enjoyed fishing, his trucking business, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Melvin McGrath. Mr. Barkley is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mattie Lou Barkley, a daughter, Starlet Britt and husband, Richard of Darlington, South Carolina, sons, Chris Barkley of Mentone, Alabama and Steve Barkley of Mentone, Alabama, Duff Parish and wife, Jeri of Palatka, Perry Parish and wife, Brenda of Interlachen and Tony Parish and wife, Cindy of San Mateo, a sister, Rachel Jones of Red Bank, Tennessee, as well as 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in the Chapel of Helm-Gallagher Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Logan and Brother James Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. hide
