Obituary

Christa Furthmller Jordan, 87, peacefully passed away, Sunday, December 1, 2024, at her home in Jacksonville, FL, with family by her side. She was born June 30, 1937, in Stuttgart, Germany to parents, Mathilde and Hermann Furthmller. In late August 1957, at the age of 20, she bravely sailed from Rotterdam, Holland, upon the ocean liner, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, arriving in New York on September 7th, officially immigrating to the United States. This independent journey was undertaken to be with her lifelong partner & husband, Lonnie Jordan, whom she met while he was stationed in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army. They joyously married, 20 days after her arrival, on September 27, 1957, and were happily married for nearly 65 years. In 1959, they settled into a home in the Englewood area of Jacksonville, FL. During this time, Christa did many things, but perhaps most proudly, she was learning the English language with proficiency, studying to establish herself as a U.S. citizen, and joined Englewood Christian Church, of which she was an active, valued, and enthusiastic member, and where she was baptized on October 8, 1961. She had a great love of music, enjoyed singing, and was a member of the church Choir for many years. In the 1960's, Lonnie signed-up to be a volunteer fireman in their new community, so Christa joined the Hogan Spring Glen Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, holding different offices and participating in fundraisers that ultimately helped toward the purchase of a new "Rescue Unit." She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #28, where she and Lonnie, together, happily participated and served.Christa was many things, but was well known to be a happy person with a sweet smile. She was curious, full of kindness, and was frequently a gracious and capable hostess, who could make any person feel "at home." She was interested in life and loved to read, to learn, to be amongst friends and do new things. She cared deeply for others and always made any person feel they were the most important part of a conversation. Christa had real love of (and for) family and friends, and these people loved her in return. She was a treasured member of her family and will always be thought of with affection. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mathilde and Hermann Furthmller, and husband, Lonnie Eugene Jordan. Her memory lives-on through her brothers, Paul and Peter Furthmller; sister, Hannelore Heuberger; sister-in-law and brother-in- law, Marie and James Hayes; son, Kennith Melvin Jordan; daughters, Linda Greene (David Greene) and DeAwna Wallace (Phillip Wallace); 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her sweet disposition, smile and enthusiasm for life will be missed.Family and friends visitation will be at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. A celebration of life service will be at Englewood Christian Church, 4316 Barnes Rd. S., Jacksonville, FL, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. Afterward, there will be lunch, where family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall.
