*Obituary for our Tata*
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Tata, Ciriaco de la Cruz who went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2026, at 7:40 p.m., at the age of 98.
Born and raised in Batac Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Tata and his beloved Nana grew up as farmers, building a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. Together they raised six children: Fe, Virgie, Josie, Mary, Arnold, and Imelda. Their eldest daughter Fe, with her husband Ernie, paved the way to America. In 1991, Tata and Nana joined them in Gainesville, Florida, where they lovingly helped raise grandsons Bryan and Jason.
Tata worked alongside Fe in the University of Florida's Horticulture Department, tending beautiful plants and greenhouses at the arboretum. Nana, drawing on her experience raising six children, worked at UF's Baby Gator and various daycares. Tata and Nana are truly proud Filipinos who have diligently earned their US citizenship. Their dedication and quiet strength have left a profound impression on all those around them.
Though Virgie and Mary have gone ahead to heaven, Tata is now reunited with them and other loved ones who passed before him. He leaves behind his devoted wife Nana, and his surviving children: Josie (with Zharmaine and Ian), Imelda (with son JP), and Arnold (with daughter, KC). He is also survived by cherished grandchildren including Ryan (with children LJ, Denver, Kylie), Justin, AJ, Zune (with daughter Maia), and many others whose lives he touched.
Tata had a gift for bringing joy wherever he went. He made everyone laugh with his funny sayings, spontaneous singing, dancing, and playful actions. His love for Nana was beautiful to witness—he walked her to the bus stop every morning without fail, always showing his deep adoration. His warmth, humor, and big heart filled the home with laughter and turned everyday moments into happy memories.
Tata lived a long, full life defined by love, resilience, and family. Though we will miss him dearly, his spirit, stories, and laughter will live on in all of us.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please do something kind in his honor—share a laugh, help someone in need, or hug your loved ones a little tighter.
Rest in peace, our dearest Tata. You will forever be the "principé" in our hearts.
