Daniel Hester Brenner passed away on March 29, 2015 at Kindred Hospital in Green Cove Springs after a long fight with cancer. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Henry and Joan (Hester) Brenner. He grew up in Garfield Heights, Ohio, Sudbury, Massachusetts, Pittsford, New York, and Stamford, Connecticut, where he graduated from Westhill High School in 1973. He attended college at Ashland University, in Ashland, Ohio, graduating in 1978 with a BS in Social Work. There he met his wife, the former JoAnne Hamel, and they were married in Ashland in 1976. They later moved to Dalton, Ohio, and Daniel worked at Apple Creek Developmental Center, CETA, and Massillon State Hospital. In 1983 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where Daniel earned his MSW from Florida State University in 1989. He worked at Shands Jacksonville in the field of psychiatric social work from 1983 to 2012. Daniel loved his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren very much. He was deeply influenced by the author C.S. Lewis. He loved music, particularly Elusive Butterfly by Bob Lind, and he enjoyed a variety of movies. He was known for his sense of humor. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He was a prolific reader and an excellent writer. He enjoyed taking family vacations, shooting off fireworks, collecting flashlights, lifting weights, running, and eating Turkish pistachio nuts. Daniel was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Brenner, his brother, Jim Brenner, and his sister, Christine Brenner. He is survived by his wife JoAnne Brenner, of Jacksonville, Florida, and their five sons, Jonathan Yoder Brenner (Adrienne Yoder Brenner), Benjamin Brenner, Jeremy Brenner (Lindsey Brenner), Andrew Brenner (Nicole Ruschell), and Matthew Brenner (Jessica Brenner). He is survived by his father, Henry Brenner, his stepmother, JoAnn Brenner, and two sisters, Betsy Brenner and Jeanne Brenner. He is also survived by one grandson, Wesley, and a granddaughter on the way, as well as other relatives and close friends. Daniel became a Christian believer in March 1973 and he attended Calvary Chapel Jacksonville, where his memorial service will be held, at 11760 Marco Beach Drive, Jacksonville, Florida at 1:00 pm Friday, April 3. Burial will follow the funeral at Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be held the evening before, Thursday, April 2, at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. S. The family will be greeting friends and relatives there from 6:00 to 8:00.
