Obituary

David D. Chidester passed away February 15, 2022 at Palagio Memory Care Senior Living of Orange Park under the care of Vitas Hospice. David was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania to the late Jesse and Helen (Nannah) Chidester. David was the oldest of 13 children. David is survived by his sisters, Dora Jarvis (Paul) of Ohio, Carolyn Dauwe of Texas, Martha Flemming of Utah, Linda Isenschmid of Ohio, Nancy Brink of Ohio, Darlene Knarr of Ohio and brother, Joe (Ruth) Chidester of Ohio, grandchildren, Clara (Patrick), David, Nichole, Michael and great granddaughter, Caroline as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. David was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Nicholson, Helen Clark, Debbie Chidester, brothers, Jesse "Pepper" Chidester and Dean Chidester, as well as his wife, Helen Chidester, and two sons, David and Michael and his loving companion, Joan Dawson. David joined the service in 1955 and served his country proudly for 35 years. He served in the Army and the Navy and was in the Vietnam War. He was also a lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America and attended numerous meetings in Green Cove Springs, Florida for many years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, bingo, gardening (due to growing up on the farm), long drives and family get togethers and holiday celebrations. He attended Church of Christ in Green Cove Springs for many years and then St. Catherines Catholic Church in Orange Park. He was a very loving, kind, and caring person. Anyone who met David could tell he was a proud Veteran! The family would like to thank the staff at Palagio and Vitas Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Mr. David. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Helm-Gallagher Funeral Home followed by a graveside service with Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. at the Hickory Grove Cemetery with Brother Claude McEldowney officiating.
