David Horton Montgomery

Mr. David Horton Montgomery, age 87, of Starke passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Haven Hospice Custead Care Center in Orange Park. He was born on May 25, 1930 in Lake City to Dr. Edwin Fleming Montgomery, Sr. and Margaret (Horton) Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was a graduate of Lake City High School. He has been a resident of Starke since 1952 and was a member the First United Methodist Church of Starke. He worked as a civilian weapon specialist at Camp Blanding for 42 years before his retirement in 1992. Mr. Montgomery was a Scout Master in Starke for 26 years. His dedication to scouting earned him the highest honor bestowed upon a Scout Master, the Silver Beaver Award. It is the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 65 years, Theta Farnell Montgomery; and his brother, Rev. Edwin F. Montgomery, Jr. Survivors are his daughter, Janet M. Hughes (Timothy) of Green Cove Springs; son, Alan D. Montgomery (Carole) of Jupiter; brother, James H. Montgomery of Lake City; and grandchildren, Taylor Hughes (Katie), Rachel Eads (Colby), Connor Montgomery, and Brian Montgomery.Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Starke with Pastor Mike Moore officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon at Memorial Cemetery in Lake City.
