Deane W Martin age 79, passed away peacefully to join his savior on February 8th 2022.Deane was born August 11th, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Deane Y Martin and Marjorie Martin. The family moved to Gainesville in the late 1950s and he graduated from Gainesville High School in 1960. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy in 1961-1964 as a submariner engineman. Deane retired from the City of Gainesville after 26 years (1965-1991) of Firefighting service. He later worked for Syncor-Cardinal Health delivering nuclear medicines to area hospitals. Deane was a spit fire of fun and laughter. He had a love of all things food, calendars, weather and thermostats. He enjoyed painting, woodworking and could often be found in his workshop "piddling" around. Deane and his late wife Karolyn loved camping and traveled throughout the Southeast. He also had a very active social life including, AMVETS, American Legion, Wednesday coffee buddies, Senior Center and volunteering at his church. In his relaxing time, he enjoyed reading, SyFy movies and eating macaroni and cheese! He volunteered at the Keystone United Methodist thrift store and Keystone and Melrose Senior Center. Deane is proceeded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Karolyn (2020). They would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on February 14th. He is survived by his children Darrin Martin of Gainesville/Ocala, FL, Heather Morse (Scott) of Huntsville, AL, Sandy Patterson (Dave) of Keystone Heights, FL, Debbie Johnson (Art) of Keystone Heights, FL and brother Bryant Martin (Helen) of Gainesville, FL. He has eight grandchildren- Zim Padgett, Andrew Padgett-Cross, Katie Southard, Matthew Padgett, Shane Lancaster, Madalyn Morse, Keegan Morse, Tristan Morse and 4 great grandchildren- Brooke, Kaydance, Adelyn and Luke.A memorial service will be held at the Keystone United Methodist Church 4004 State Road 21 Keystone Heights, FL 32656 on February 26th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to AMVETS Post 86 Keystone Heights, FL, American Cancer Society or Keystone United Methodist Church.
