It is with heavy hearts yet joyous remembrance that we celebrate the life of Dixie Jean Matarazzo, who was born on April 28, 1943, in Wabash, Indiana. Dixie journeyed peacefully on September 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and love.
Dixie will be forever missed by her loving family, including her son Charles (Shari) Futrell, son Kevin (Juanita) Futrell, daughter Deborah Luci, and her cherished grandchildren: Forrest Futrell, Christopher (Aubrey) Futrell, Tabitha (Shawn) Cruz, David Luci, Misty Larsen, and Mikey Larsen. She also treasured her great-grandchildren, Rylee Futrell, Brynlee Futrell, Addisyn and Brisyn Larsen, and Aydin, Christy, Kylee, and Scarlett.
A proud Registered Nurse by profession, Dixie dedicated her life to caring for others in the medical industry. Her infectious laughter and generous spirit brightened the lives of many. An avid lover of the theater, she enjoyed attending shows at the Alhambra and could often be found at her favorite local haunts-the Beach Diner, Steak & Shake, Publix, Ruby Tuesday, and CeCe's Pizza-where her vibrant personality was well-known and loved by all.
Dixie was not only a practical jokester but also an entertainer at heart. She delighted in dressing up during the holidays, often as a cow or an elf, bringing joy and laughter to every occasion. A member of Marantha Baptist Church, she cherished singing "I'll Fly Away," and her spirit will surely sing on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate Dixie's beautiful life at a memorial service planned for Friday, September 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The service will take place at Marantha Baptist Church, 2927 Leon Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32246, where we will reminisce, share stories, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of a woman who loved life and loved to love others.
Dixie will be inurned at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date and her spirit will live on in the laughter that she spread and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. As we say our goodbyes, we encourage all who knew her to remember the joy that Dixie brought to this world and the countless lives she touched.
