Mr. Dominic J. Marfice, "Chick", 87, of Melrose died Saturday, February 27, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born September 9, 1928, in Coatesville, PA to the late Italian Immigrant parents, John Dominic and Mary (Cicco) Marfisi. After helping support his parental household while attending school, Chick served his country honorably in the military branch of the armed US Merchant Marines during WWII and the Korean Conflict. During his time in the service, Chick was wounded while onboard ship and later returned to his hometown assisting his parents while working for Lukens Steel Mill for a number of years.On October 25, 1956, Chick married Dorothy Carmela DeMichael; the young couple had moved to Detroit, MI in 1958 and later to Bradenton, FL in 1962. After residing in Bradenton for 35 years, the couple then moved to Melrose, FL in 1997. After being married for 51 years and raising four children, "Chick" and Dorothy were separated by her death on November 4, 2007.Chick was a hardworking man and a wonderful provider with an extraordinary character that could never be duplicated. Already a "jack of all trades" and naturally handy, he joined his father-in-laws construction company and eventually became a Commercial Water and Sanitary Sewer-Heavy Equipment Contractor. Being talented in many areas of construction, Chick provided improvements and additions to all the homes of his family. As a hobby, he built outdoor recreational toys for his children and wooden furniture and toys for his grandchildren, great nieces and nephews. Chick made a life size Santa Claus, 8 Reindeer Sleigh set for his kids later giving it to the church for auction, (He was great at wood crafting.)Chick was an active member of the Lions Club International receiving the "Melvin Jones Fellow Humanitarian Award"; he was also President of the Bradenton Lions Club where he was involved for many years. He served at the "Florida Lions Conklin Center for the Physically and Visually Challenged" learning sign language as a second language. In addition, his passion was volunteering with the "Southeastern Guide Dog School for the Blind".Chick was also a member of the American Legion Post #202 in Keystone Heights , and the Italian American Association and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bradenton, FL and later St. William Catholic Church in Keystone Heights, FL.Chick was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy and his sister Gracia and brother Joseph. He is survived by his sister Adeline Marciniszyn (Peter) of Coatesville, PA; four children; Charlene Russell (John) of Kankakee, IL, Dominic J. Marfisi (Sherry) of Bethlehem, PA., Michael A. Marfice (Janis), of Chesnee, SC, and CarolAnn Inbornone (Joe) of Lake Mary, FL. Also left behind are his seven grandchildren; Jason, Amanda, Darren, Amber-Lynn, Vincenzo, Alexander and Anecia, along with two great-grandchildren; Alexis and Gianna and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. William Catholic Church with Father Mike Williams presiding.
