Obituary

Donald C. Bolden was born in Ringgold, Georgia, to his beloved parents Amos and Maurice Bolden. At an early age, "Don/Doc" was known for his gentle spirit, strong sense of responsibility, deep love for his family & friends, and a never ceasing quick wit; devout in faith and service to others with a quiet strength. These qualities remained constant throughout his life.

On August 16, 1955, shortly after high school, Don began his career with the railroad, first with NC&StL Railroad in Chattanooga, Tennessee as an operator and clerk; then as a telegraph operator and clerk at various locations on the Atlanta Division. Following the merger of the NC&StL with the L&N Railroad, he accepted a clerical position at the newly opened Tilford Yard in 1957.

He was promoted in 1971 and transferred to Louisville, Kentucky as Manager of Data & Station Operations. During the planning and development of the new automated hump yard and terminal, Don was appointed Project Manager of Procedures at Osborn Yard. Upon completion of that project, he served as Manager of the Transportation Service Center during the consolidation of the departments and service centers, and transferred to Jacksonville, Florida in 1992 by CSX. He loyally served in that role until his retirement in December of 1996.

Following retirement, Don remained deeply involved in his community. He was an active member and volunteer with his homeowners association in Secret Cove, dedicated many years volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital – Southside, and became a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in 1992, followed by serving as an usher from 1996-2021.

Don was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Ann Bolden.

He is survived by his beloved Sister Wanda Swanson and Husband Wayne; beloved children, Regina Bolden of Jacksonville, Florida, Wendell Bolden and his wife Alyssa of Louisville, Kentucky, Karran Barker and husband Steve of Spencer, Tennessee; five cherished grandchildren Amber, Christopher, Courtney, Jasmine and Chauncey; and four great-grandchildren Landon, Presleigh, Adalyn and Lennox; along with many extended family members and friends; all of whom loved him dearly.

Don/Doc: Dad, Brother, Uncle, Granddad Great-Granddad, Friend, a loving Soul, whom touched many lives will forever be in our hearts. We will all be together again, where there is no more separation…
