Mr. Donald D. Greene age 83 of Melrose passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019, in Haven Hospice in Gainesville. He was born June 12, 1935, in Carthage, New York to Harry and Verna (North) Greene. Following graduation from Port Leyden High School in Port Leyden, New York, Mr. Greene enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and served three years. He then earned his Masters degree in Education and taught school and coached sports for many years in Newcomb, New York before retiring to Florida. In 2003 he moved from St. Cloud to Melrose where he became an active parishioner of St. William Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 202. Mr. Greene also enjoyed shooting his guns and watching the Boston Red Sox and Florida Gators play ball. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his grandson Cameron Greene and great granddaughter Kyleigh Greene. He leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-one years Mary (Hoard) Greene of Melrose and their three sons Michael J. Greene of Port St. John, John W. Greene of Keystone Heights and James C. Greene of Daytona Beach. Also left behind is a sister Judith Shampine of Florida and New York along with a granddaughter Regina Greene and a great granddaughter Serenity Shivers. A Memorial Mass for Mr. Greene will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2019, in St. William Catholic Church with Father Andy Mitera presiding. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either, St. William Catholic Church, 275 Satsuma St., Keystone Heights; American Legion Post 202, 7441 SR 21, Keystone Heights, FL 32656 or to a Veterans organization of your choice.
