Mr. Donald "Don" Monaghan, 75, of Keystone Heights passed away at Roberts Care Center in Palatka after a courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, October 7, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 3, 1939 to the late Charles Edward and Sarah Jane (Scullen) Monaghan and had served in the United States Navy from 1959-1963. Prior to retirement, Mr. Monaghan was an A/C Production Supervisor at Cecil Field. He has been a longtime resident of Keystone Heights and parishioner of St. William Catholic Church. Don was a car aficionado and attended many classic car conventions and events. He was a "Chevy Guy" and was proud to have met Carroll Shelby at one of these events. Don was also a fan of motor racing and had attended many Gatornationals and NASCAR races over the years; but most importantly Don was a family man. His sister Maureen "Sissy" Monaghan had preceded him in death. Survivors are the love of his life for 52 years, Marjorie and their two children, Thomas Monaghan and wife Dawn of Keystone Heights and Kelli Ann Suri and husband Frank of Fort Polk, Louisiana. Also left behind are his five grandchildren; Tyler Yuhas and wife Julianne, Blaine Suri, Noah Suri, and Benjamin Monaghan along with several cousins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, October 9, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday October 10, 2015 in St. William Catholic Church with Father Mike Williams presiding. Interment will be held at the Keystone Heights Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Haven Hospice, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177.
