Donald Ray "Don" Tilley

Mr. Donald Ray "Don" Tilley age 89, of Starke passed away at his home Friday, July 20, 2018. He was born May 17, 1929 in Bessemer, Alabama to William and Peggy (White) Tilley and had served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. While living in South Florida, Don earned his BA degree while working for the Dade County Sheriffs office. While at Dade County Sheriffs he became Floridas first certified fingerprint expert. He later moved back to Starke and was employed with Jacksonville Sheriffs office until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Tilley then became involved with Starkes City Commission Board serving nine years as a Commissioner and one year as mayor. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church where he served as usher captain. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 56. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Bill Tilley. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years Mary "Sue" (Jackson) Tilley and three children Don, Robin and her husband Rod, and John and his wife Becky. He is also, survived by his sister Peggy Godwin, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Tilley will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Madison Street Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Kirksey and Rev. Charles Warren officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Conner Cemetery.
