Obituary

Doreen Brown Chesser was born on August 20,1927, in Manchester, England. She moved with her family back to Wales due to the Manchester Blitz during WWII.

During the war, while he was on leave in Wales, she met and later married William R. Chesser (U.S. Army Medical Corps). At the end of WWII, at the age of 18 she traveled to the U.S. on a cargo ship with other war brides and joined her husband in Florida.

After living in Vernon, Florida, they moved to Gainesville, where she worked at McCrory Department Store and No Mend Hosiery. In Gainesville, they raised their three children. She was involved in Girl Scouting for many years, as a leader, trainer, and cookie chairman. She was a volunteer in the schools, as well as teaching preschool for many years.

She is survived by her children Cynthia Braswell, Kristine (Joe) Tobi and William "Bill" (Miranda) Chesser and her grandchildren Steven C. Tobi, Sarah Tobi (Alex) McCarthy, Spencer C. (Frances) Tobi and her great-grandsons Frasier and Robin Tobi. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Norma) Brown and many much-loved nieces and nephews in Wales.
